Raja Suhaldev Rajbhar

Bhar is a word derived from tribal languages like Gondi and Munda, which means 'warrior'. The tribal society of central India used to have its own hierarchy, with clans ranging from Brahmins (priestly class), warriors to service or menial class. The tribal society had special respect for its warriors and martial clans. 'Bhar' is one such clan which had glorious history in medieval period, having its own small principalities in various parts of North India. As is evident from the origin of its name, Bhar was a warrior tribe which created its own history but slowly disappeared from pages of history. The Bhar formed small kingdoms in the Eastern UP region, until they were disposed by invading Rajput and Muslim groups in the later middle ages. The last Bhar Raja was killed by Ibrahim Shah Sharqi, the Sultan of Jaunpur.

Raja Suhaldev Rajbhar

Raja Suhaldev Rajbhar was the great warrior. According to the Gazetteer(Shukla,2003:108), there is a great story of the war between Sayyed Salar Masood and Maharaja Suhaldev. Sayyad Massod was a nephew of Mahmood Ghazanavi. Massod was born in Ajmer in AD 1015. At the age of 16 he started his invasion of Hindustan. He travelled thousand multan to reachDelhi and from there to Meerut, Kannauj and Satrikh in Barabanki. Before arriving at Bahraich, which seems to have been desolated place at that time,he sent Saiyad Saif-ud-din and Mian Rajab, two kotwals(lieutenants) of his army there. A confederation of the nobles of Bahraich threatened the two lieutenants of Massod and tried to push back the army of Islam.

Masood then marched towards the region were at first daunted by the young warrior but gradually took heart and fought against him. But Massod defeated them time after time, until the arrival of Suhaldev turned the tide of victory. Masood was overthrown and slain with his entire follower in AD 1034. He was buried by his servants in Bahraich in the spot chosen by him, where his Dargah was built in AD 1035.

Suhaldev was the eldest son of the king of Sravasti, called Mordhwaj. According to the stories he had many names like Suhaldev,Sakardev,Suhirdadhwaj,Rai Suhrid Dev,Suhridil,Susaj,Shahardev,Sahardev,Suhahldev,Suhildev and Suheldev. But the contemporary print culture he is reffered to as Raja Suhaldev.

    "History and origin[edit]

The word 'Rajbhar' means "the best among kings'. Some historian think that the word 'Rajbhar' originates from Raj+Barah (Twelve); that is, one of twelve Kings of that time - Katyuri, Chand, Khas(Pathani), Shahi, Malla, Bashera, Bum and Mankoti, etc. The tradition of Rajbhars remained as such under different reigns of Doti, Katyuri, Chand, Gorkha and British. Rajwar of Champawat shifted to Jaspur during the British rule in India. Jaspur is located in Bichlla Chaukot. The Rajwar were the kings of the region. They were authorized to collect the revenue of the land in the hill region. They were one of the highest castes of the Hindu religion. They used to distribute their land among the people who were their faithful. There are other villages in the Chaukot region like Pipoda, Deghat, Masi. They had their kingdom in different regions of the Chaukot. They settled Brahamin, Harijans and other people to increase the humanity among the villages. The Rajwar of Jaspur are very famous all over the country as well as abroad. Dharam Singh Rajwar put the foundation stone of the Durga Temple in Jaspur for the people of Jaspur to worship and to build the faith on the Goddess so that the people live in peace and harmony after praying to the Goddess Durga Devi. Jaspur is one of the villages where the people are always sincere and helpful to others. The river of Bichlla Chaukot is known as "vinod Nedi" which originate basically from the himalayan hills range of Deghat & it provide water to people through "JAL NIGAM" & to crops field through canals. Rajbhar also known as the Rajputs in the northern part of india..."
